To our amazing Aleph community, the time has come.

It has been a whirlwind of a year for us. We know it has been a little quiet on the community side of things lately, but we are definitely still here — and we have been working incredibly hard behind the scenes.

We have some massive news to share just in time for the holidays. On Monday, December 15th, we are officially launching Aleph Proᴮᴱᵀᴬ.

*Important Note on Availability: To facilitate this transition, aleph.occrp.org will be offline starting Monday at 10:00 CET. The site will remain inaccessible for approximately 10 hours. We aim to be back online with the new version by 20:00 CET.*

What have we been up to? For the past year, our team has pulled off a huge technical feat: completely rewriting the Aleph codebase from scratch.

Starting Monday, the technology underlying the public instance will be migrated to this new Aleph Pro stack. While most of these changes are “under-the-hood” — meaning you will still be able to use Aleph as you always have to explore datasets and find leads — you will feel the difference immediately.

Crucially, this new architecture will allow OCCRP to make significant savings on the costs of running this instance, ensuring we can keep the lights on for investigations around the world.

This launch also marks a significant strategic shift for us. As we transition to this new supported platform, we will officially be sunsetting our involvement with the Aleph open-source software. Maintenance of the open-source version will officially end after December 2025 as we focus our resources entirely on Aleph Pro.

  • For those hosting their own Aleph instances: We will be in touch with you very soon.

  • You can read more about this decision and what it means for the future in our official FAQ’s.

We are incredibly proud of what we’ve built so far, but we can’t continue to evolve without you. Once the beta goes live on Monday, we invite you to dive in.

  • Found a bug? Please use this form to let us know.

  • Have questions? Feel free to reply directly to this thread, or you can email me directly at ezana.ceman@occrp.org.

Thank you for believing in our mission. We can’t wait to show you what Aleph Pro can do.

See you on Monday,

The Aleph Pro Team

So does this mean the source code is unavailable?

I can’t speak for OCCRP but I’ll try to answer this outstanding question:

  • Yes, as far as I know the new source code is unavailable to the public.
  • For this reason, we forked the project to “OpenAleph” which continues the open source version we’ve been adding essential features to: https://openaleph.org
